The Montessori Method at Home

“Each child, is a free, unique individual, with their own timing and methods of learning about the world around them.”.

Loving parents want their children to grow up healthy, cheerful and of course happy. “What it takes and how to achieve it?” These are questions many parents ask and, unfortunately, not everyone knows the answer. But the answer is! By developing and learning through the Montessori methodology, children of preschool age acquire great motivation to learn, internal discipline, assiduity and the ability to concentrate. This method also forms a sense of responsibility, willpower, and develops intuition and conscious obedience. All of this is the key to a child’s maturing in society as a full-fledged, conscious individual.

For almost a century schools and kindergartens have been opening all over Russia educating children according to this method. Although, due to various circumstances, not everyone can afford to send a child to such a kindergarten, you can equip such a classroom or room at home. Didactic material and aids for this can easily be found in a store or ordered online. Every parent is able to make such material independently, at home.

To create a Montessori environment, the room must be divided into meaningful zones:

-a hands-on area where the child acquires self-service skills (laundry, ironing, cleaning, cooking, etc.).д.);

-zone of sensory development. Here children are introduced to the physical properties of objects (smell, magnitude, temperature, weight);

-mathematical zone. This zone teaches counting, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication skills;

-language development zone. Learning native speech, reading, writing, expanding vocabulary;

-space development zone. This zone implies acquainting the child with the surrounding world as a whole.

All didactic material is aimed precisely at the purposeful development and education of children. The child, in doing so, has full access to all aids in the classroom.

But it is not enough just to equip a room. It is necessary to know the basic principles and principles of the Montessori method.

The first and basic principle is freedom of choice. The tools in the classroom are arranged so that a child from 0 to 6 years old can see and pick up any object he or she likes. The child also sets the time and pace of the lesson himself. A teacher or parent supervises and explains to the child how to use an object correctly, using the motto “Help me do it myself.

The Montessori method has found its application in many countries of the world and is now popular, thanks to its high efficiency and simplicity.
